As the first Master Planned Community in the Scottsdale area, McCormick Ranch forever changed the housing market in Scottsdale and the surrounding communities.
Fowler McCormick, grandson of Cyrus McCormick (inventor of the reaper) and industrial tycoon John D. Rockefeller, bought the ranch in 1942, which served as a working ranch with Black Angus cattle and Arabian horses. He and his wife lived on the ranch in the winters, and in 1967 they donated a 100-acre parcel to the city, now known as McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park. After Anne McCormick’s death the Ranch was purchased in 1969 for the development of “a planned community”.
